Funeral Services

The beautiful and sonorous tone of the bagpipes can help your loved ones receive a farewell that honors their life and celebrates your cherished memories. Bagpipes have been used at funerals for centuries and the sound they produce stirs the souls of all who hear them. Duncan has been performing at funerals for nearly a decade and would be honored to be a part the service.

Bagpipers at funerals typically follow this format:

1

The piper performs for 20-30 minutes outside the church or funeral home as family and friends arrive for the service.

2

The piper performs as the casket or urn is brought to the hearse and as guests leave.

3

The piper performs as guests arrive at the cemetery and as the casket/urn is placed on the burial spot.

4

The piper performs a farewell tune (usually Amazing Grace, but doesn't have to be) after the burial. The piper walks away while playing so the music fades into the distance.

All aspects of Duncan's performance are customizable. If you have any other ideas for your loved one's service, Duncan would be more than happy to make that happen.

Some common tunes performed at funerals are:

  • Amazing Grace

  • The Dark Island

  • Mist Covered Mountains

  • Going Home

  • Flowers of the Forest

  • Skye Boat Song

  • Sleep Dearie Sleep

"He was a welcome addition to the funeral. It was pouring rain for my mother’s funeral. It was even wet inside the tent we provided for guests. Duncan was friendly, played my requests and played requests of my brother-in-law. He arrived early and was enjoyed by everyone. He was already known by one of the guests. He had played at her husband’s burial!"
